Call to Action - Sonoma County Budget Impacts Funding for Children
06/11/2010 -
June 10, 2010
Our Children Need Your Help!
Next week the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors will hold budget hearings to review the recommended Budget for Fiscal Year 2010-2011. There are two tiers of cuts proposed for Family, Youth and Children's Services (CPS) - we will not know during the hearings how deep the cuts might be,therefore which tier of cuts will be needed. You may view the budget by clicking here and then clicking on the link to the pdf file (The Human Services section begins on page 111)
Public testimony on the County proposed budget for 2010-11 is scheduled for 8:30 - 10:45am on Monday, June 14th. Below are two different ways that you can participate- any way you choose to participate is going to make a difference! We must speak up for the most vulnerable children of our community.
Let Your Voice Be Heard!
1. Email the Board of Supervisors-One way you can participate is to email your the Board of Supervisors. You may find their email addresses by clicking here: http://supervisors.sonoma-county.org/content.aspx?sid=1001&id=1000 and then clicking on the link for each of the Supervisors. Consider writing an email stating your opposition to the most significant general fund reductions to Family, Youth and Children's services. These reductions would have a negative impacts on already vulnerable children. Please be sure to use a personal story or anecdote that illustrates the importance of these services.
Please be sure to copy any emails you send to robinb@calparents.org so that we can reference the number of emails sent at the budget hearings. If you would like sample email to send, please contact Robin at the email or phone number below.
2. Attend the Budget Hearings-Another way to participate is to come and testify about the importance of the services being provided by CPS to our families and children. It is very helpful to share meaningful stories of clients who have benefited from these services. It is important for the Board to know that people in the community need these services and that there are people that care about these issues!
The hearings will be held at 575 Administration Drive, Room 100A, Santa Rosa. A map to the location and driving directions can be accessed here. We would like everyone to wear blue that day so we can be easily identified. We will also be handing out large blue ribbons at the entrance.
Please let Robin know if you plan on attending the hearing. If you have any questions or need to get more information please contact Robin Bowen at (707) 585-6108 x.101 or email robinb@calparents.org
Thank you for your support!
