For the Children: A Comprehensive Plan for Child Care and Learning Programs

This newly published report by the Sonoma County Child Care Planning Council is designed to mobilize public and private resources to address identified needs and to enhance and strengthen collaboration among children’s advocacy groups and service agencies. Through a unified implementation of this plan, Sonoma County can become an environment that:

  • Values parental choice;
  • Values child care professionals and educators;
  • Ensures that all children have access to high quality, affordable care; and
  • Respects the diversity of cultures and needs represented in the community.

The Comprehensive Countywide Child Care Plan outlines existing conditions in Sonoma County; identifies five goals; notes desired outcomes; recommends strategies; and identifies potential partners.

The complete report is available in PDF format below and will open in a new browser window.

The Economic Impact of Child Care on Sonoma County

  • Child care is a $91 million industry in Sonoma County
  • Our community reaps $7 for every $1 invested in child care
  • Sonoma County's child care industry employs 2,412 people
  • Our current supply of child care will not meet the growing need without partnerships between businesses, government, and the child care industry

Working together, 4Cs and the Sonoma County Child Care Planning Council recently commissioned the National Economic Development & Law Center in Oakland to produce a study assessing the economic impact of child care in Sonoma County. The results are of significance to both the business community and the public sector.
