Santa Rosa, CA – December 17, 2015: Quality Counts, as led by First 5 Sonoma County, announced in early December that it has designated 4Cs programs as high quality, with 4Cs preschools rated in the top tier. Quality Counts, Sonoma County’s Quality Improvement Rating System, is a 5-tier rating system that rates the quality of Early Education programs. Preschools and Child Care Centers were rated on Early Learning Environment and Teacher/Child Interactions, which research show is the strongest indicator for child’s school readiness.
4Cs was awarded $160k in recognition of the high ratings, which it will invest in professional development programs for preschool staff. Melanie Dodson, 4Cs Executive Director, said of the news, “I am proud of the 4Cs preschool programs and our staff for the recognition they have received – it is well-deserved. It is a clear testament to their ongoing commitment and dedication to our children, their education and to the quality of preschool programs we have been running for 30 years.”
Access to high quality Early Education programs is critical to closing the opportunity gap that holds many children back from reaching their full potential. Studies show that children enrolled in high quality programs, such as 4Cs preschools, are more likely to graduate from high school, attend college, and lead healthy lives well into adulthood. Sonoma County has made strong efforts in the past year to increase access to quality programs, aligned with the goals outlined in the Portrait of Sonoma County.
4Cs preschools serve primarily low-income families in 11 State-Funded preschools across Sonoma County. A small number of full-fee tuition slots are available to the general public. For information on eligibility and registration, please visit www.sonoma4cs.org or call (707) 544-3077.
