To All Educators of Young Learners
We will be building our own Unstable Tables (click here to learn more) (inspired by an Exploratorium exhibit with the same name). In this activity, you’re invited to tinker with objects on a platform to figure out how to balance them in ways that don’t always look like they should be possible. You will arrange and rearrange objects on top of a surface to make it tilt, move…and sometimes fall over!
The Thursday, January 13th session of the Young Learners Teacher Network will have some special guests! Ryan Kurada, SCOE’s Science Coordinator, TOL, and Steph Muscat from the Exploratorium’s Tinkering Studio will join us for a hands-on workshop on balance and stability! We will meet from 3:00-4:30 via zoom. Unstable Table Materials List – Tinkering Studio (click here to see list).
Ryan and Steph are prototyping this workshop, which means it’s a work in progress. They will welcome your feedback and reflections about how you might integrate this project into your own setting. Please take a look at the attached PDF and gather some materials ahead of time so that you’re ready to explore.
