The three-part “English Learners in the TK and Preschool Classroom: Strategies that Work”training series, led by the TALLK Project, will provide TK and preschool educators with five research-based strategies that not only develop language, but also build an inclusive and culturally responsive classroom:
- Use the home language
- Consistent routines
- Start slowly
- Scaffold communication
- Elicit expressive LanguageParticipants will engage in a wide variety of experiences that will help them deeply understand each strategy and apply it in their classroom. From reading research, to watching live modeling and viewing classroom footage, to practicing with colleagues, this dynamic training will build the capacity of teachers to meet the needs of young ELs. Additionally, teachers will try the strategies out in their classrooms, collect data, and reflect on their practice and next steps. TALLK coaches will be available for follow-up support between session.
