The Sonoma County Quality Improvement Rating System (QIRS) rates early care and education programs and provides ongoing support to improve their quality. A QIRS can also help families easily identify high-quality early care and education for their children.
Value in Preschool (VIP) – Funded by First 5 Sonoma County
VIP is a preschool scholarship program that gives low-income children an opportunity to attend a high-quality preschool program. VIP supports quality preschool programs, in center settings and in licensed family child care homes, to objectively establish and to increase the quality of their program. Currently, VIP is being offered in First 5 targeted areas in Petaluma, Rohnert Park and Santa Rosa.
To participate, child care providers must meet VIP standards, which establish their program as a high-quality preschool. VIP providers enroll children whose parents choose their program AND can use the VIP endorsement to advertise to tuition-paying families. For more information, contact Jill St. Peter by phone at (707) 522-1413 ext. 108 or by email at email@example.com.
The Child Care Initiative Project (CCIP) is a technical assistance and training program to support your child care business. If you are an exempt provider, working toward your license, just received your license, or currently hold a license, you qualify to participate. Family Child Care at Its Best (UC Davis) is a series of free workshops that emphasize the needs of children from birth to age three. The series aims to enhance the quality and safety of licensed family child care homes and increase retention of existing family child care homes. The workshops can be taken for continuing education units (CEUs) by paying a small fee. See the Community Training Calendar for a current list of upcoming trainings.
